Being so new it makes me nervous. Everyone I talk to says it is safe, but when I started researching it I'm not so sure. It seems like there are a lot of questions.Debra Jnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5510655703336125501.post-23582207027781295442009-05-22T13:00:53.479-04:002009-05-22T13:00:53.479-04:00I hear there are some more HPV vaccines that cover...I hear there are some more HPV vaccines that cover more strains of HPV being develped. I've been looking a Gardasil too and the results of the study make me wonder if it's worth risking side effects. Does Jim, MD, really know something different?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5510655703336125501.post-46667294967971158852009-05-14T13:47:00.000-04:002009-05-14T13:47:00.000-04:00Could you explain the data to me, then? I'm puzzled as to why health advisors in Germany and Scotland are reconsidering the vaccine on the basis of these studies if the studies actually translate to a very successful outcome.

Actually, no, I wouldn't get the shots you suggest because I'm at a very low risk anyway, for multiple reasons--so a 17-45 percent decrease would be relatively meaningless. If I had a very high risk, of course I would.

Equally, if I were a smoker, ate a really crappy diet, and slept around a lot I'd be far more likely to consider Gardasil. The big thing is to be informed and realistic.

But seriously, please do let me know how I should be interpreting the data.Kristin Johnsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5510655703336125501.post-49595236936810415342009-05-14T07:09:00.000-04:002009-05-14T07:09:00.000-04:00"Reduce precancerous cells by a meager 17 to 45 pe..."Reduce precancerous cells by a meager 17 to 45 percent." Kristin, you don't understand the data. That being said, if I told you I could decrease breast or colon cancer risk by 17 to 45 percent with an injection, would you get it. If you say "no", you are being blinded by your ignorance.
